Vonage intros portable phone

It looks like Vonage is getting into the portable VoIP phone marketplace with the introduction of their new V-Phone. According to the company, the phone can be activated by being plugged into any PC with a broadband intenet connection

The V-Phone is being aimed mostly at business users since it can potentially reduce voice communication costs including cellphone roaming charges. The phone comes loaded with Vonage Talk software and includes 250MB of memory that can be used to store files such as MP3s and digital photos. The device is priced at $39.99.

1. DingoTel has this device that lets you do Push to Talk over VoIP. You can use any FRS GMRS 2way radio and you can talk over the net! Its amazing. It is like Nextel but there are no monthly fees. Pretty cool stuff and never been seen before. The DingoTel 2way unit is sold at Best Buy and Amazon. They use a p2p (peer to peer) network so that they can keep it completely free and also so that you can reach your buddies just like you would on Skype or MSN or Yahoo. Your contacts show up when their PCs turn on and voila you are connected. Check out www.dingotel.com for more info on their VoIP system and oh... they also did some cool SIP tunneling so that SIP will work behind firewalls or restricted networks without worrying putting port mappings into firewalls (at last a company like Skype that makes VoIP simple).

+Vonage is a pretty expensive VoIP company..

3. How does this thing work? Does it have a microphone in it? What if you plug it way in the back of a PC? I see some problems with this and I'm not totally believing it works well, but it does look pretty cool.

7. Do you know if there's a wireless version in development? I read somewhere that the Apple iphone might have the capability to automatically switch between cellular networks and wifi connections seamlessly. If that's true, Vonage seems to be behind in their products, already.

10. Wow Vonage is trying whatever they can to compete. VOIP is great especially for businesses. The only drawback is 911 issues. http://nationwide-t1.com is the high speed internet provider for VOIP.

11. There's another voip company that sells the phone that easily connects to the usb port of your computer. No need to rewire as you would in vonage. It's also portable and can be used on other PCs and even your laptop if equipped with a data card. It's pc to landline or mobile phone and no need to subscribe at the other end. Costs $10 a month service for unlimited long distance and to 37 int'l countries.
