AIM to add free local phone numbers
According to a cheeky post over at TechDirt, AOL is going to offer something unique in a coming revision of AIM: Not
only is AIM going to be enabled for PC-to-phone calling like Skype and Yahoo Messenger (and Gizmo, and Wengo,
and......) but the new AIM will also sport a free local phone number for incoming calls. The catch? Well, if you want
to place outbound calls, that'll be fifteen bucks a month. Check it out.

(Page 1)2. I think you have the news backwards. AIM Phoneline is going to be offering free outbound calls, but to receive a U.S. phone number, you need to pay the $15 a month. I have blogged about it here:

3. Great for AIM.
In fact, I'm using wengophone now. The new version can also enable us to chat with different IM software,not skype now( but they say they will provide this service soon).

I think you got it right on your own blog. Outbound calling is $9.95/mo, inbound (with the associated local phone number) is totally free.

1. If AOL can dominate the VoIP scene just like they dominate chat services, then I might want to consider buying back into AOL stock.
